YouTuber Of The Week: Elizabeth Tan And Her Super 'Merdu' Voice
In this week's edition of YouTuber Of The Week, we highlight Elizabeth Tan, a Malaysian YouTuber who has captivated many Malaysians with her voice.
Elizabeth Tan is a 20-year-old singer who started her YouTube channel in 2010
She started posting videos initially on her channel to improve her hosting skills
One day in December, she decided to cover Joe Flizzow's "Havoc", which was making its round on local airwaves. The video went viral and is closing in on one million views to date.
Elizabeth's musical influences include Malaysians Zee Avi and Yuna and it shows through her singing style
Like most songwriters, Tan – who is inspired by Zee Avi, Yuna, Ingrid Michaelson, Corinne Bailey Rae, Bon Iver and Ed Sheeran – likes to pen songs about “life and choices”.
And of course, there’s no forgetting her beloved ukulele.
One of the main reasons why Elizabeth stands out from the crowd is her ability to sing in both English and Malay fluently, covering popular Malay songs as well as in English
In conjunction with Merdeka day, she posted her rendition of "Tanggal 31" a popular song that is usually sung during the celebrations
Ever since her cover of "Havoc", her popularity has been steadily growing and Elizabeth has been performing in gigs and concerts, the recent one being the Good Vibes Festival
