Chinese Woman Hosts Her Own 'Funeral' To Move On From 3-Year Relationship
"When life gives you heartbreak, throw a funeral."
While heartbreak can drive people to adopt various coping strategies, a woman in China has taken the concept of healing to a whole new level.
In a rather unconventional approach, 25-year-old Wang decided to stage her own 'funeral' as a way to bid farewell to her dead relationship.
Hailing from Sichuan province in southwestern China, Wang had been in a relationship with her boyfriend for three years before breaking up in April this year, reported South China Morning Post.
The relationship ended due to her boyfriend's parents' opposition to their proposed marriage.
Following the breakup, Wang staged her own funeral on 28 October, inviting her friends "bid her farewell".
Wang decided to stage her own funeral to put an end to the constant questioning from her friends about her future wedding plans
Having been a guest at wedding parties recently, Wang found herself fielding endless inquiries from her friends about when they could attend hers.
To put an end to the constant badgering, she decided to throw "a party with a twist" for her friends.
The ceremony was held at a florist in the provincial capital of Chengdu, and the shop's owner generously offered the venue to Wang at no cost
Wang can be seen lying on her symbolic 'deathbed', surrounded by candles, reported South China Morning Post, citing a video that has been circulating online.
Meanwhile, her friends are seen following the traditional funeral customs of bowing and presenting her with white flowers one by one.
After the solemn farewell, Wang figuratively "comes back to life", and began a conversation with her friends about life and death.
According to Wang, the funeral was a symbolic way to cope with her heartbreak and start a new chapter in her life.
