Anyone who has seen 'Mulan' is familiar with the following scene

The scene sees 'Mulan' in full makeup as she fails to impress the matchmaker. She then proceeds to wipe off her makeup and sings 'Reflection'.

The trailer for the live-action remake of 'Mulan' stays true to the animated movie and sees actress Liu Yifei in full makeup, presumably at the matchmaker's house

In a now viral challenge, Chinese netizens have been trying to recreate the look with rice flour and strong colours to emphasise traditional beauty

According to Whats On Weibo, the hashtags #MulanMakeupImitation and #MulanMakeup ImitationContest have attracted over 300 million views on the popular website.

The look emphasises the roundness of the face by using rice flour to create a 'blank' canvas.

It also uses strong colours on the cheek and a floral decoration on the forehead.

According to NextShark, the look also features a yellow "aura" on the forehead, known as Buddha's makeup, since many practised Buddhism at the time.
