A lion in Guangzhou Zoo, China has recently become the centre of attention for its rather retro hairstyle

A visitor at the zoo posted photos of the lion on her Little Red Book page, which have gone viral since 28 May.

While lions usually look majestic with their glorious manes, this king of the jungle appeared to have a layered fringe instead

Similar to a kid who was forced to receive a bowl haircut.

It's giving us similar vibes...

Some netizens mentioned that they had visited the zoo the week before and the lion did not look that way.

Another commented that in order to achieve that effect, it would require washing, trimming, and blow-drying the mane.

The person who posted the photos speculated that the 'bad haircut' was done by the zookeepers, but that was apparently not the case

A spokesperson from the zoo retorted that they had not done anything to the lion's mane, and that it had occurred naturally.

They added that it was likely due to high humidity or the way the lion groomed itself, which is similar to how a cat grooms itself — by licking its paws before brushing its mane.

Well, if that were true then this lion is clearly in trend
