16 Malaysian-Made Memes About The FINAS Filming Licence That Will Confirm Make You LOL
"Mana lesen?"
On Thursday, 24 July, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said everyone must apply for a licence before any filming activities can take place in the country
Saifuddin, who cited Section 2 of the FINAS Act 1981 in the Parliament, said "everyone big and small, old and young, individuals or organisations" is encouraged to get a licence before filming.
The statement, if enforced, would mean that even regular Joes like you and I would require a licence from the National Film Development Corporation (FINAS) before we film our cat and dog videos at home.
The announcement has come as a shock for many, but content creators took the opportunity to take a jab at the Ministry and FINAS for the absurdity of the licencing requirement
According to FINAS' website, only a registered company with RM50,000 paid-up capital qualifies for a film or video production licence.
Although the Ministry has since seemingly backtracked on the issue, it proved too late as Malaysians were quick to react with memes.
8. Did the same Minister post a video on Twitter without a licence?
Saifuddin posted a video on his Twitter the same day he made the statement in the Parliament.
11. Luckily the person behind @kuey.png does not live in Malaysia
In case you are wondering, we are talking about this guy.
