The champion of Mister Global 2021 from Spain has officially stepped down and Vietnam's first runner-up, Danh Chieu Linh, recently assumed the title instead

The Mister Global Organization announced today, 5 September, that Miguel Angel Lucas Carrasco from Spain stepped down from his title as Mister Global 2021 and is unable to fulfil his duties.

"We are so sad to announce that Miguel Angel Lucas Carrasco has to relinquish his title due to personal reasons that make him unable to fulfil his duties as Mister Global, such as travelling to countries for charitable events and inspiring [the] young generation," reads their Instagram post.

"[The] Mister Global title comes with responsibility – it is hard to win the title but it is even harder to keep the title. We will always remember him as the same Miguel Angel Lucas Carrasco who won the title on the night of 15 March in Maha Sarakham Province, Thailand. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours," said Pradit Pradinunt, president of Mister Global Organization.

But with every ending comes a new beginning, as Vietnam's hunk steps up to the plate to assume his new role

"The new Mister Global 2021 Danh Chieu Linh will continue the legacy of Mister Global and fulfil his obligations for the next five months, including crowning the next winner of Mister Global," reads the caption.

"During his reign, the winner is given tools to personally and professionally enhance others by providing charitable efforts to affect positive change, all while increasing awareness of environmental causes and [inspiring] others."

Nam Vuong Danh Chieu Linh has been nicknamed by locals as 'Barefoot Nam Vuong' because of his background in farming

According to local media Lao Dong, he is currently still working in landscape gardening in Bảo Lâm District, and was both surprised and confused by the announcement.

With encouragement from his friends, the 26-year-old initially took part in Mister Global 2019 and made it to the top 30. After the contest, he went back to farming.

However, later on, he rejoined and that's when he won the global king contest in Thailand in March, beating dozens of others, and eventually earning him the first runner-up title.

The second runner-up was awarded to a representative from South Korea, while Venezuela and Mexico received the third and fourth runner-up titles, respectively.

These are the other contestants who took part in Mister Global 2021:
