A doctor looking at a toddler’s X-ray received a shock when she found SpongeBob SquarePants smiling back at her. Dr Ghofran Ageely had scanned the 16-month-old hospital patient’s chest to find out what foreign object he had swallowed.

Dr. Ghofran Ageely, a radiology resident at King Abdulaziz University Hospital, was shocked to find the cartoon character lodged in a young patient's chest. Looking at the X-ray, Ageely told Live Science that he "was amazed by the visible details. You can see his freckles, shoes and fingers."

But medics were amazed to see the character, smiling and with his tongue sticking out, looking back at them from the image.

Dr. Ghofran initially thought that the object was a hair accessory but screamed when she saw SpongeBob instead

She had initially suspected the child had stuffed a pin or hair accessory in his mouth, but soon found out what had really happened. The radiologist at the King Abdulaziz University Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, admitted she screamed when she made the bizarre discovery.

Not to worry, SpongeBob was safely removed and the kid has been discharged from the hospital. Kids, don't try this at home!

The pendant was removed from the boy's throat and he was discharged to recover at home. The images were later shared on a forum where radiologists and medical students discuss cases, including foreign bodies.
