This 6-Year-Old's Attempt To Save A Chick He Ran Over Will Restore Your Faith In Humanity
He was presented with an award for "extraordinary courage" at school.
Six-year-old Derek Lalchhanhima from Sairang, India was riding his bike when he accidentally ran over a chick on the road
According to a Facebook post on the incident, which has garnered over 93,000 shares at the time of writing, the animal died instantly.
However, the upset little boy was still full of hope.
Clutching the lifeless chick on one hand and INR10 (RM0.59) on the other, Derek begged his father to take him to the hospital
According to NextShark, his father told him to go on his own.
The six-year-old ran to the hospital without hesitation.
Touched by his hopefulness, the hospital staff took photos of the wide-eyed child.
"With all the money that he had, he asked for help," the caption read.
"I'm laughing and crying at the same time."
The little boy burst into tears when medical staff told him that there was nothing they could do as the chick had already died
An upset Derek came home and told his father that he would return to the hospital with more money to help the lifeless animal.
His parents then explained to him that it was unfortunately impossible for anyone at the hospital to revive it.
According to The News Mill, Derek's father said that he has "always been a rather unique kid."
Though the bird could not be saved, Derek's school cheered him up by presenting him with an award for "extraordinary courage"
"In Mizo tradition, different types of shawls are usually presented to esteemed guests and in olden days, to pasalțha (braves or warriors) who have accomplished great feats," read the caption in a follow-up post on 4 April.
"The shawl that is draped on him looks like a modified version of the 'Tawlhloh Puan', an honour given to those who have exemplified extraordinary courage," she explained.
