Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced a targeted financial boost and new welfare measures for the country's 600,000 e-hailing drivers and p-hailing couriers during the tabling of Belanjawan 2027 today, 9 October
Starting in 2027, the government and Grab will co-fund a RM160 million package designed to increase net earnings and improve worker welfare across both sectors.
Median monthly net earnings are projected to rise by up to RM227 for e-hailing drivers and up to RM100 for p-hailing couriers.

Around 600,000 e-hailing drivers and p-hailing couriers are set to benefit from the initiative.

To enhance social safety, the government will offer a 35% matching Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) incentive, increasing to 50% when platform providers co-fund contributions.
PERKESO tax relief will also expand to cover mandatory and voluntary schemes, alongside a 70% incentive for self-employed individuals across 17 non-mandatory sectors.
For workers looking to build long-term assets, Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) and Agrobank are providing RM270 million in financing to help gig workers start a business or purchase their first home
Anwar noted that the p-hailing sector will be fully regulated under the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) and Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP), while the Gig Consultative Council finalises minimum rate frameworks in early 2027.
