Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced at the 2027 Budget tabling that the maximum home repair financial assistance rate for disaster victims will be increased from RM5,000 to RM10,000
The substantial policy update comes alongside a dedicated RM260 million allocation to the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) to boost national relief operations and emergency response capabilities, said Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister.
The adjustment aims to relieve the heavy financial burden placed on families whose residential properties suffer structural damage during recurring natural disasters, particularly seasonal monsoons, severe flash floods, and localised landslides
Rising material costs and labour expenses in recent years have made the previous RM5,000 ceiling increasingly inadequate for meaningful home restoration work.
Under the enhanced relief framework, eligible households affected by certified disaster events will be able to claim up to RM10,000 to repair damaged roofs, compromised walls, and essential structural components
The financial assistance will be disbursed directly through established district-level disaster management committees following on-site assessments by relevant local agencies.
Meanwhile, the RM260 million fund earmarked for NADMA will strengthen nationwide emergency preparedness, maintain temporary evacuation centres (PPS), and ensure adequate food and medical stockpiles during high-risk weather periods
The funding allocation also covers immediate search-and-rescue logistical support alongside collaborative operations with state welfare departments and security forces.
