The Malaysian government has approved a series of targeted relief measures for PTPTN loan holders, set to take effect from 2027
According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the 2027 budget tabling, the flexible financial framework aims to alleviate the cost-of-living pressures facing young graduates and lower-income earners entering the workforce.
Under the updated policy guidelines, borrowers earning a gross monthly income of up to RM2,500 will be eligible for a full deferral on their monthly loan repayments.
Meanwhile, individuals earning between RM2,501 and RM3,000 per month will enjoy a reduced minimum repayment rate of just RM50 monthly.

The government will also award a 10% discount on total outstanding balances for borrowers who maintain an active repayment record without any accumulated arrears
This incentive rewards responsible borrowers while helping them settle their educational debts faster.
Furthermore, tax incentives are being introduced to encourage corporate employers to assist their staff with student loan repayments
Companies that settle PTPTN loans on behalf of their full-time employees will qualify for tax deductions. This tax relief window covers all qualifying payments made between 1 January 2027 and 31 December 2028.
