13 Cycling Places In Klang Valley From Easy To Challenging Trails

Parks and cycling routes where you can pedal your stress away.

1. Bukit Kiara Park

Where: 78, Jln Abang Haji Openg, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, 60000 Kuala Lumpur
Difficulty level: Easy to challenging
Highlights: There are wide pavements for easy cycling as well as more intense mountain biking trails with several steep points. Just watch out for joggers, hikers, and monkeys!
Entrance fee: Free
Bicycle rental: Not available. You will need to bring your own bicycle.

2. Perdana Botanical Garden

Where: Jalan Kebun Bunga, Tasik Perdana, Kuala Lumpur
Difficulty level: Easy
Highlights: KL's first large recreational park, with a deer park and different gardens to check out, as well as the Butterfly Park and Bird Park nearby. You can cycle, jog, or have a picnic!
Entrance fee: Free. But you will need to pay RM1 if you want to visit the Orchid Garden and Hibiscus Garden on weekends.
Bicycle rental: Not available. You will need to bring your own bicycle.

3. Titiwangsa Lake Garden

Where: Jalan Tembeling, Titiwangsa, 53200 Kuala Lumpur
Difficulty level: Easy
Highlights: You'll get to enjoy a beautiful view of the city skyline. It's a huge park with a playground and cycling track.
Entrance fee: Free
Bicycle rental: Available. There are vendors just outside the park.

4. Putrajaya Botanical Garden

Where: Lebuh Perdana Barat, Presint 1, 62000 Putrajaya
Difficulty level: Easy
Highlights: Lots of wide, open spaces and shelters where you can throw a picnic. There's also a bridge, bougainvillea tunnel, orchid path, vine tunnel, and more to explore. Optionally, you can rent a kayak and paddle on the lake for RM10.60 an hour.
Entrance fee: Free. But there are several attractions in the area that have admission fees.
Bicycle rental: Available. RM10 per hour. 

5. The Central Park, Desa ParkCity

Where: C-3-1 Plaza Arkadia, 3, Persiaran Residen, Desa Parkcity, 52200 Kuala Lumpur
Difficulty level: Easy to moderate
Highlights: Dog-friendly park which features a man-made lake, playground, and a 9ft-wide path for cycling. There's also a grocery store, cafés, and other nearby shops.
Entrance fee: Free
Bicycle rental: Available. There's a bicycle shop near MyNews where you can rent a bike for the day.

6. Main roads in KL on car-free Sundays

Where: Major streets in KL city centre every first and third Sunday of the month from 7am to 9am.
Difficulty level: Easy
Highlights: Get to see KL from a different perspective. You can walk, cycle, skate, rollerblade, run, or ride electric scooters throughout 7km of KL city's main roads.
Entrance fee: Free. But you need to register.
Bicycle rental: Not available. You will need to bring your own bicycle.

7. Kepong Metropolitan Park

Where: Jalan Lingkaran Tengah 2, Kepong Metropolitan Lake-garden, 52100 Kuala Lumpur
Difficulty level: Easy
Highlights: The park is large enough for cycling, jogging, and kite flying. Enjoy a stunning view of the lake and sunset. You can also grab a bite from one of the nearby food stalls.
Entrance fee: Free
Bicycle rental: Available. RM10 for an hour.

8. Forest Research Institute Of Malaysia (FRIM)

Where:
Jalan Frim, Institut Penyelidikan Perhutanan Malaysia, 52109 Kuala Lumpur
Difficulty level: Easy to challenging
Highlights: A recreational forest with canopy walks, hiking, camping and waterfall areas, and wide paths for easy cycling. Mountain bike trails are available too.
Entrance fee: RM1 per adult / Students in Malaysia FOC 
Bicycle rental: Available. RM6/small bicycle and RM8/big bicycle for the first hour; RM2 for subsequent hours.

9. National Botanic Gardens Shah Alam (Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam)

Where: Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam, Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam, 40000 Shah Alam
Difficulty level: Easy to moderate
Highlights: There are wide pathways for easy cycling and steeper hills if you want to challenge yourself. There is also an animal park, various gardens to check out, and a hill you can hike called Bukit Sapu Tangan.
Entrance fee: RM3 per adult / RM1 per senior citizen (55 years old and above)
Bicycle rental: Available. RM15 for the first hour and RM1 for every subsequent hour.

10. Batu 18 Hulu Langat route

Where: You can check out the route here.
Difficulty level: Moderate to challenging
Highlights: Takes you through the kampung area at Hulu Langat away from the city life. You'll pass several lakes and can go uphill to Genting Peres, the border between Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.
Bicycle rental: Not available. You will need to bring your own bicycle.

11. River of Life routes

Where: KL 
Difficulty level: Moderate to challenging
Highlights: Takes you on a cycling path through KL along the River of Life, fountains, and colourful graffiti walls. There are multiple routes and loops with different levels of difficulty. Take note some stretches of the cycling paths may be shared with pedestrians. 
Bicycle rental: Not available. You will need to bring your own bicycle.

12. Jalan Kerayong / Seputeh - Kampung Attap - Petaling Street / Bukit Seputeh cemetery trail

Where: KL
Difficulty level: Moderate to challenging
Highlights: Takes you through a scenic route in KL, including past a cemetery, old Chinese temples, and an abandoned park. End it with some good food at Petaling Street. Find out more here.

13. Bukit Tunku route

Where: KL. You can check out the route here.
Difficulty level: Moderate to challenging
Highlights: Takes you through the 'Beverly Hills' of Malaysia surrounded by greenery. There are several parts along the way that will put your climbing skills to the test. End it with a stop at one of the neighbourhood cafés!
Bicycle rental: Not available. You will need to bring your own bicycle.
