According to DKing founder Leron Yee, the Malaysia International Durian & Cultural Fest was born out of a desire to promote the king of fruits on a global scale

"Our vision is to create a month-long feast dedicated to this beloved fruit, where people from all corners of the world can discover the wonders of Malaysia durians.

"Similar to the renowned Oktoberfest celebrated in the western countries during October, we envision a Durian Fest in July, adding a distinctive purpose to Malaysia's cultural calendar and enticing travellers to visit our beautiful country," said Leron.

In partnership with Malaysia Inbound Chinese Association (MICA), the durian fest is also expected to attract over 1,000 tourists from China and other countries to enjoy Malaysia durian, as well as increase the nation's gross domestic product through accommodation, food, and spending.

Besides feasting on durian, the fest will also feature a tonne of exciting activities

There will be magic shows, lucky draws, performances, durian guessing games, and other events lined up during the durian fest.

Plus, this year will feature the first ever 5km Durian Fun Run, where over 1,000 contestants will be running with durian in hand, making it a one-of-a-kind activity for families, friends, companies, and non-governmental organisations. The fun run will even be joined by brand ambassadors Amber Chia, DJ Chan Fong, and local actor Aaron Aziz.

In addition, strategy partner MELIFE will be providing free facial wash and treatments at the durian fest on 16 July, in particular for runners and durian eaters, as well as members of the public. MELIFE will be raising funds for charity, and MELIFE founder Datin Jekki Chin will even match the funds collected on the day, with hopes to break a new Malaysia Book of Records for funds raised for charity.
