Calling all wagyu and hamburg steak fans, Hikiniku To Come is finally opening in Malaysia

The Japanese restaurant, famous for its freshly made wagyu hamburg steaks served with rice, is opening its first Malaysian outlet at Sunway Pyramid tomorrow, 15 August.

The Tokyo-born brand has gained a following for its simple but very specific approach to hamburg steak: fresh beef, charcoal grilling, and freshly cooked rice.

It has since expanded beyond Japan to cities including Taipei, Hong Kong, Seoul, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Shanghai.

What makes Hikiniku To Come so popular?

The restaurant specialises in Japanese hamburg steak made with 100% beef, which is freshly ground before being shaped and grilled over charcoal.

Unlike a typical burger, there's no bun involved. Instead, the hamburg steaks are served with freshly cooked Japanese rice and a selection of sides and condiments.

The restaurant follows its "Three Just" philosophy: Just Ground, Just Grilled, and Just Cooked — essentially, the beef is freshly ground, grilled to order, and served immediately.

You get three hamburg steaks in one set

According to the restaurant, the signature Hikiniku To Come set comes with three 90g hamburg steaks, freshly cooked rice with complimentary refills, miso soup, pickles, house-made condiments, and a raw egg.

There's even a recommended way to eat them.

Start with the hamburg steak on its own to taste the beef, then switch things up with grated daikon and ponzu. For the final patty, add the raw egg for a richer bite.

And naturally, you'll want to let all those beef juices make their way into your rice.

Hikiniku To Come opens tomorrow, 15 August

The first Malaysian outlet is located at G1.111, Ground Floor, Sunway Pyramid.

The restaurant's grand opening is on 15 August 2026.

So if you've been wanting to try Hikiniku To Come but couldn't secure a table in Tokyo, this might be your chance to finally get your hands on its famous hamburg steak without having to fly to Japan.

And given how hard it is to get a reservation at the Tokyo outlet, we'd probably prepare for a queue.
