More than 8,000 participants from 78 countries took on 2,845 steps across 118 floors at The IHH Sky Race, which returned to Menara Merdeka Maybank on 22 and 23 August
The event, held at the Merdeka 118 Precinct, recorded 7,797 finishers to earn a new Malaysia Book of Records title for Largest Participation in a Towerrunning Event.
The achievement builds on two records set by the event in 2025 — Highest Towerrunning Race at 503 metres and Most Finishers in a Towerrunning Race/Event, with 5,602 finishers.
This year's race also marked the start of a three-year partnership with IHH Healthcare Malaysia as Title Partner and Official Medical Provider, with more than 200 medical personnel supporting participants throughout the event.
Japan's Ryoji Watanabe won the men's category in 15:38, just one second short of the course record set by Malaysian tower-running champion Soh Wai Ching last year
Soh finished second in 15:48, while Australia's Mark Bourne came third in 16:33.
In the women's category, Croatia's Tea Faber took first place in 18:07, setting a new women's course record. Finland's Laura Manninen finished second in 18:36, followed by Japan's Yuko Tateishi in 19:35.
"Setting a new women's course record makes the result even more special, and I would love to come back and race again next year to defend my title," Faber said.
The race featured Individual and Team of 3 categories, attracting elite athletes, fitness enthusiasts, families, first-time climbers and corporate teams
Beyond the race, the Sky Race Village at Stadium Merdeka ran from 20 to 23 August, featuring food and drinks, games, arts and crafts, live music, and activities by event partners.
Main Partner EBENE also secured a Malaysia Book of Records title for Most Participants in a Sports Recovery Session, with 1,127 people taking part.
The event was supported by the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry and sanctioned by the Malaysian Towerrunning Association.
