Local Designer Who Made Hijabs With Political Party Logos Sold 11,000 Pieces In 20 Minutes
With GE15 approaching, one entrepreneur has taken a hold of an interesting business opportunity.
As the entire nation gears up to vote for GE15, one businesswoman is encouraging the political spirit among Malaysians for this election season
Clothing company Kekaboo, recently released a hijab line called, "Kekaboo Malaysia Memilih PRU15", which features 12 Malaysian political party logos on the headscarfs with creative and intriguing names for each one.
Among the 12 parties selected as motifs for the headscarfs include Barisan Nasional, UMNO, PKR, PAS, Bersatu, Amanah, and MUDA.
Fitting names were given to each scarf, which align with the political party's respective logos. The hijab with PAS logos on it is referred to as 'Daulah Islamiah', and is green in colour, matching the PAS flag itself, while the hijab for PKR is called 'Arus Perjuangan', and is blue with red trim on the edge of the scarf.
Known collectively as 'tudung bawal Kekaboo', 11,000 pieces of the square headscarfs were sold in less than 20 minutes after it was uploaded onto the brand's website
Co-founder of the company, Nur Hazwani Abdul Zainal, stated how she did not expect such an overwhelming response to the production of the line, having aimed to produce more than 50,000 headscarfs until GE15. According to Hazwani, this is the first time the brand has come up with such designs since their inception in 2014.
"There has not been any big event in Malaysia for quite some time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So, we want to create a warm and lively atmosphere for this quinquennial event," she said in a conversation with Bernama.
Hazwani, who hails from Temerloh, Pahang, said that the idea first came as a response to meet the demands of customers from various political parties. However, due to popular demand of the headscarfs, the company came up with more options over time.
"Initially, we uploaded a video to showcase seven samples of the tudungs on TikTok... after three hours, I had the intention of deleting the video but saw the extraordinary amount of feedback in the comments section, and we even received 10,000 likes on the [post]," she said.
Nur Hazwani later mentioned that the company decided to come up with a 13th unique design from the 12 original motifs, by combining all the party logos into one hijab.
The headscarfs are made from voile cotton and are offered in two sizes: 45 inches and 50 inches
The pricing for the hijabs are as below:
- 45 inches (RM28).

It should be noted that the availability is based on the brand's website and through agents and stockists nationwide.
