Malaysian In Australia Shares How Many Grocery Items She Can Buy With Just AUD50

A Malaysian who migrated to Australia recently took to TikTok to reveal how much AUD50 (RM154) can get her at a grocery store
Iffah, who goes by @zatul.iffah on TikTok, often shares about her journey of moving to Australia with her family.
Bored of her 9-5 job, Iffah decided to shake things up by purchasing a one-way ticket out of Malaysia to Melbourne, together with her husband and child.
In one of her recent viral videos, Iffah revealed the items she managed to buy with just AUD50.
Here's a list of the items and their prices:
- A bag of turmeric AUD1 (RM3)
- A bag of grapes AUD1 (RM3)
- 1kg ground beef AUD10 (RM30)
- 2kg of fish AUD10 (RM30)
- 3 peaches AUD1.80 (RM5.50)
- Bananas AUD1.50 (RM4.60)
- 6 kiwis AUD2.40 (RM7.40)
- Sweet potatoes AUD1 (RM3)
- A big bottle of oyster sauce (AUD7.80)
- Half a cabbage AUD1 (RM3)
- Spinach AUD1 (RM3)
- Salad leaves AUD2 (RM6)
- Kuey teow AUD3.50 (RM10.80)
- Another bag of sweet potatoes AUD1 (RM3)
- A bottle of tom yam paste AUD4.70 (RM14.50)
The total came up to AUD49.70 (RM153.70).
Considering the amount of goods she bought, many were surprised by how inexpensive her entire grocery list was
Several expressed that they can't even get half as many grocery items for RM50 in Malaysia.
Despite the fact that converting AUD50 to ringgit equals RM154, which can also fetch quite a few items in Malaysia, the items she purchased still appear remarkably inexpensive when considering purchasing power.
Purchasing power is simply the value of a currency expressed in terms of the number of goods or services that one unit of money can buy.
Dollar for dollar, if you're earning in Australian dollars, the sheer amount of items she bought with just AUD50 was much greater.
