"My Dad Found 3 Blocks In His Heart" – M'sians Open Up About Their Perspective On Health
Do you consider yourself healthy?
Be honest, do you often go for regular medical checkups?
The National Health and Morbidity Survey 2019 reported that one in five adults are living with diabetes, one in three experience hypertension, and that non-communicable diseases are the main causes of death and disability in Malaysia.
This just goes to show that even though you may feel like you're healthy, it's important to get routine checkups, so you can sniff out any potential health issues before it becomes a serious problem.
Together with Prudential, we got a few Malaysians to sit in the Confession Booth to share how they take care of their health
Watch the video below here:
While Ashley practises an active lifestyle, she admitted that she doesn't always watch what she eats, 'cause Malaysian food is just too irresistible, hehe
Ashley: "I do work out very regularly and I don't always jaga what I eat la. 'Cause you know, Malaysians, the food is just too good, you cannot always jaga. So I think I am quite a healthy person."
When asked about the steps he takes to improve his health, Kelson said he tries to balance out his unhealthy habits by exercising afterwards
Kelson: "Like when I eat unhealthy, I'll go to the gym the next day, you know, just to make sure it's balanced. And also, just don't overdo anything when it comes to dieting."
For Suresh, he was convinced his father was still healthy, up until a checkup revealed three blocks in his heart
Suresh: "My dad was super healthy up until he retired, and he actually went for a full body medical checkup. He's never been to one. He went and checked, and turns out he had three blocks in his heart. We were like, 'Wow'."
As the trio began opening up about how they viewed health, the topic of insurance came up.
And while Ashley still doesn't have an insurance plan (side eye, Ashley), she now has plans to find one.
Ashley: "Prudential has this thing called the Prudential Medical Booster where they have a No Claims Benefit which offers up to 1,000 healthcare services. So like your medical checkups, vaccinations, among many others."
