The amount totals RM3 billion annually, according to its chairman Datuk Seri Norliza Abdul Rahim.

PTPTN chief executive Ahmad Dasuki revealed that almost 50% of students accepted into institutions of higher learning (IPT) each year benefited from student loans, according to a 2024 report.

Since its inception, the agency has enabled more than four million students to pursue tertiary education, highlighting the role it has played in expanding access to higher education.

"PTPTN helped me cover my education expenses and other necessities throughout my time at university. Having that support made it easier for me to focus on my studies and complete my education without having to worry as much about finances.

"Now that I'm working and earning my own income, I see my repayments as a way of giving back the support that once helped me achieve my goals. For me, borrowing was a choice, but repaying it is a responsibility," said 24-year-old Adilah.

For Boon, 29, PTPTN helped make private university more manageable

"Private university wasn't cheap," Boon told SAYS.

"PTPTN played an important role in helping me complete my studies by easing some of the financial burden that comes with pursuing higher education. Having access to that support allowed me to focus on finishing my course and working towards my future career.

"When it came to repayment, I didn't settle the loan in one lump sum. Instead, I used funds from my KWSP Account 2 whenever I had accumulated savings available. Whenever there was a sizeable amount in the account, I would make a payment through myPTPTN apps.

"That approach worked well for me because it allowed me to gradually reduce my outstanding balance over time while staying committed to my repayments," shared the 29-year-old.

For many borrowers, repayment is not just about clearing a personal debt. It also helps keep the education financing system going for future students.

The repayments collected are channelled back into the education financing ecosystem, allowing more students to receive support as they pursue their studies. By managing their repayments responsibly, borrowers help ensure that education opportunities remain available for the next generation.

If you're still wondering what's the best way to repay PTPTN loans, rest assured that there are various repayment channels and facilities designed to give you flexible options, making it easier for you to repay at your own convenience.

Planning your repayments early is always a good idea. Make sure to use the available channels to find something that works for you!
