If you love all things minimalist, then Scandinavian interior design is right up your alley

Whether you want your home to look like an IKEA showroom or something from Pinterest, Scandinavian design is what you should go for! Especially since the minimalist vibe is #aesthetic and in-trend right now.

duduk by EcoWorld has beautiful homes that have been fully-furnished with Scandinavian design by professional Malaysian interior designers for sale now. More deets at the end of the story.

Inspired by the essence and philosophy of Scandinavian design, duduk collaborated with Volvo Cars Malaysia and lifestyle publishing house Aurizn to come up with Volvo Cars & Aurizn EcoDesign Challenge.

This competition aimed to create real homes with Scandinavian design that Malaysians can own. It also gave Malaysian interior design firms a prestigious platform to showcase their skills and creativity.

But first, what makes Scandinavian design special?

It's all about functionality, simplicity, and clean lines. The focus is on creating a simple home environment, instead of overcrowding with too many elements.

But that doesn't mean that Scandinavian design isn't still totally stunning on its own. In fact, it uses a blend of textures, contrasts, and soft hues to create a sleek, modern feel.

At the same time, it also involves the concept of hygge, which aims to create a cozy feel

Through this, Scandinavian design brings out beautifully balanced functionality, modernism, and comfort.

Nature is another big influence, as it largely inspires the clean lines and simple designs that Scandinavian design is known for. Natural materials like stone, wood, leather, and hemp are often used.

At its core, Scandinavian design promotes the idea of living well in a simple home environment.

Here are some top tips that'll help you achieve that look:

1. When it comes to the colour scheme, opt for white and other neutral colours

Scandinavian design usually focuses on a neutral colour palette. Think white, grey, tan, pale green, light pink, and other muted hues. Accents of blue and other bold colours are sometimes incorporated throughout to add some small pops of colour. But for the most part, stick to neutral tones and shades.

2. Make wood your new best friend

As mentioned earlier, nature and natural materials are a huge part of Scandinavian design. Incorporate wood into your space however you can, from the furniture and flooring, to the walls and the windows.

Scandinavian design focuses on creating a light and bright aesthetic, while also celebrating the beauty of nature. So, when choosing which type of wood to use, opt for light ones such as beech, ash, and pine, and make sure that the natural wood grain can be seen.

3. Always remember that less is more

This is especially important when you're decorating. Keep things simple, focus on creating clean lines, and don't go overboard. When choosing furniture, choose pieces that are beautiful, but not ornate. Also, look out for multi-functional pieces so you can cut down on the number of items you have in one space.

4. Add cozy elements to create a space that feels inviting

Besides clean lines, creating a space that feels cozy and inviting is also a huge part of Scandinavian design. It's all about using contrasting textures to create warmth.

Add soft elements like plush cushions, fluffy rugs, and soft blankets throughout a space, to contrast with the other simple, hard elements of Scandinavian design. Just make sure to not go overboard. The idea is that they shouldn't take up too much space, but still allow you to be comfortable.
