Tucked away in Kota Damansara, Tiny Beans Café is home to 11 rescued resident cats, with a few foster cats also looking for their forever homes
Behind the café is husband-and-wife duo David and Nicole, who turned their love for food and animal rescue into a cosy space where customers can enjoy a meal while getting to know cats with their own unique stories.
Tiny Beans Café was born from a love for food and animal rescue
Before opening Tiny Beans, Nicole rescued stray cats while running her home-based cupcake business, My Little Bakes, while David sold his homemade carbonara before eventually leaving his corporate job.
As they continued rescuing strays, many became what they jokingly call "failed fosters". Without much experience finding adopters, the cats simply stayed with them.
As their furry family and their own family grew, the couple decided to open Tiny Beans Café, creating a bigger space where people could meet rescued cats and hopefully adopt them.
Today, the cafe is home to 11 permanent resident cats, alongside a couple of foster cats available for adoption
Customer favourites include MJ, a gentle and laid-back cat, and Meow Meow, the very first rescue who now rules the café like its resident boss.
One of the café's most memorable rescue stories belongs to Renji, a flat-faced Persian who was abandoned at a market.
Nicole first came across him through a Facebook post showing his heartbreaking condition. Although hundreds of people had commented on the post, nobody had stepped forward to rescue him.
When Renji was finally brought to safety, he was severely malnourished, dehydrated, covered in fleas, suffering from chronic flu and ear mites, and so weak he could barely stand
After a year of treatment, patience, and care, he's transformed into a cat who now enjoys being around people, a huge change from the frightened cat they first rescued.
The café hopes more people will choose adoption
Besides its 11 permanent residents, Tiny Beans also cares for several foster cats looking for homes.
Anyone interested in adopting goes through a careful screening process, including an application form, home checks, time spent bonding with the cat, and a two-week home trial before the adoption is finalised.
While the café is still waiting for its first successful adoption, David and Nicole had already helped rehome 38 rescued cats and kittens before opening Tiny Beans.
They hope visitors leave with a better understanding that rescued cats can make just as loving companions as pedigree breeds, and that choosing adoption means giving another cat a chance at a better life.
The menu features Western favourites like spaghetti, croissants, croffles, and light bites, alongside illy coffee, Niko Neko matcha and houjicha drinks, sparkling beverages, and tea
If you're wondering what to order, the couple says their signature croffles are easily the most popular item on the menu.
There's no entrance fee to spend time with the cats either.
Visitors simply need to order at least one menu item per person, with each dine-in session limited to 1.5 hours so everyone gets a chance to enjoy the space.
