Proton Saga Hot Wheels Now Available In Stores But Scalpers Are Apparently Buying Them All
The cost of the model car is RM9.90 but they're fetching prices as steep as RM295 in resales.
Hot Wheels recently announced that its highly-anticipated diecast Proton Saga model is now available in stores all over Malaysia
On Sunday, 8 October, the official Hot Wheels account posted on Facebook that the car is now available in major departmental, toy specialty, and convenience stores.
This latest Hot Wheels edition, designed at a 1:64 scale to replicate Proton's inaugural model, the 1985 Saga, serves as a special tribute to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Mattel in Malaysia.
The 1985 Saga is the first Malaysian-made car.
Hot Wheels set the model car's price at RM9.90
But despite not being a limited edition, scalpers have been purchasing it in significant quantities and reselling it online at staggering prices, sometimes reaching as high as RM295!
Here are some screenshots we took of resellers selling them online:
So, if you've been wanting one all this time, good luck trying to find it at its original price.
Mattel said it will hold live unboxing sessions for the diecast Proton Saga model at Pavilion Bukit Jalil on the following dates:
— 10am, 8 October
— 10am, 15 October
— 5pm, 14 October
The company also plans to release a limited edition version next year with a blister card that features a Malaysian-themed artwork by nine-year-old Penangite, Saw Jane Harn.
