Embarking on your journey as a first-time fur parent can be exciting, yet daunting at the same time :O
Now that you've got a furry friend at home, it's time to pet-proof everything to keep them safe, while you begin learning about how to take care of their needs.
Beyond your pet's everyday essentials, it's also important to make your pets feel loved, so they can live a happy and content life with you.
1. First things first, give them attention <3
Some pets prefer more attention compared to others, but in general, every pet needs that TLC.
Thankfully, giving attention doesn't always have to be time-consuming. For some pets, it could mean regular play time or getting out of the home for a short walk. For other pets, they may be content just to be in the same room as you.
When you're away from home, a simple video call can also brighten up your pet's day! That is, until they get bored of your face and decide to cause mayhem around the house, hehe.
2. Reward them with treats... in moderation ;P
If there's one thing that every pet loves, it's treats!
Not only are treats a good way to train your furbabies to listen to commands and behave, it can also help to keep their spirits up.
There's no particular rule about how often you can give them out, but a good rule of thumb is to limit treats to 10% of your pet's daily calories.
3. Get them play toys or a playmate!
One way to keep your pets excited is by delighting them with play toys, whether it's a chew toy or a feather at the end of a stick. Although, you may find that your pets are content with everyday items you have lying around at home, from empty boxes to crumpled-up pieces of paper. :P
Ultimately, pets love to play, and playing makes them happy. Seriously, how do they have so much energy all the time?
For some pets that are more sociable, having a playmate can make all the difference. It can also help in developing their social skills, so go ahead and get your pet a playmate or make a furry friend.
