The celebration brought together around 2,000 members of the community for an afternoon of food, activities, and community spirit.

Held at Dewan Serbaguna MBPJ, the celebration brought together food, activities, volunteers and community partners as part of Sunway's Sejahtera Bersama campaign for National Day and Malaysia Day. YAM Tengku Zatashah binti Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj joined Sunway Group President Datuk Anuar Taib, volunteers and community partners in distributing food to members of the Desa Mentari community.

There was plenty for the community to enjoy throughout the celebration, including food and activities for children and families

Children could take part in face painting, burger decoration, and sustainable keychain-making, while families could join a football clinic.

Food was also a big part of the afternoon. Around 2,000 burgers prepared by Burger Rumah Sahabat were distributed alongside ice cream, otak-otak, popiah, and beverages contributed by entrepreneurs from Selangor Youth Community.

The celebration also brought together senior representatives from community partners including National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia, Selangor Youth Community, and Yayasan Kebajikan Negara Malaysia, alongside representatives from across Sunway including Sunway Resort Hotel, Sunway Theme Parks, Sunway University, and Sunway Healthcare Group.

But the burgers had a story of their own!

The burgers came from Burger Rumah Sahabat, a food business run by residents recovering from substance abuse and established with the support of Selangor Youth Community.

Sunway purchased 5,000 burgers from the business as part of the programme, providing participating residents with income, market access, and hands-on experience in fulfilling a commercial order at scale.

Some 500 were distributed during the National Day launch at Rumah Sahabat in Hulu Langat on 29 August, followed by another 2,500 through the Burger Rumah Sahabat food truck.

The remaining 2,000 were distributed at the Malaysia Day celebration in Desa Mentari.

The programme was launched at Rumah Sahabat, where Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj joined Sunway leaders, volunteers and NGO partners for a rewang, or communal food preparation session, as well as a tour of the rehabilitation centre.

The programme supported Orang Asli communities, children, senior citizens and families in need, with initiatives including the distribution of dry groceries to households in need and the Sunway Meal Pack-a-Thon, a meal-packing initiative that brought people together to prepare meal packs for communities in need.

The Meal Pack-a-Thon brought volunteers together to assemble and distribute meal packs nationwide.

The programme was carried out with Sunway's partners, including Selangor Youth Community, Yayasan Kebajikan Negara, Malaysian Red Crescent Society, Kechara Soup Kitchen, and Rise Against Hunger Malaysia.

Sunway Group Chief Brand Strategy Officer Nik Tasha Nik Kamaruddin said the programme was about bringing Malaysians together to support communities in need

"From Rumah Sahabat to Desa Mentari, this year's programme has shown how nationwide collective action can create meaningful impact.

"Our partnership with Burger Rumah Sahabat also demonstrated how sustainable empowerment can enable one community to uplift another. Guided by our belief in Doing Well by Doing Good, we hope to continue working alongside our partners and communities to create opportunities and build a more inclusive society."

From the 5,000 burgers purchased to meal packs and groceries distributed to communities nationwide, the monthlong programme brought together different initiatives under #SunwayforGood!
