Meet Alysta Lim and Sara Tan, Cambridge A-Level (CAL) students at Taylor's College who managed to secure placements at esteemed global universities
For both of these students, Taylor's College's University Placement Services (UPS) played a crucial role in securing their coveted placements. Moreover, these services equipped them with the necessary skills and preparation to excel in their interviews and other aspects of the admissions process.
Alysta, a first-year student pursuing a bachelor's degree in physics at University College London, expressed her appreciation for the invaluable guidance provided by Taylor's College's UPS during her Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) application process.
"The UPS team meticulously reviewed my application to ensure its accuracy and completeness, making my application process seamless.
"Additionally, they provided support in strengthening my personal statement and increasing my chances of admission to top universities," she said, emphasising the thorough assistance she received, including a detailed guide for filling out the application and personalised advice on shortlisting suitable universities.
Sara, currently a second-year law student at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), explained that she always had a clear vision of pursuing law, with the UK being the practical choice.
The vibrant city life and access to numerous career opportunities and events were key factors that attracted her to study in London. Among the prestigious institutions, she chose LSE due to its focused concentration on social sciences.
"The services provided by the UPS were absolutely invaluable. I had the privilege of engaging with university admissions officers right on campus, receiving personalised guidance and support from the staff throughout the UCAS process. The UPS team played a vital role in shaping my personal statement and expertly guiding me through the intricacies of university applications," she shared.
Besides the support provided by the UPS, students at Taylor's College also benefit from valuable educational guidance by their lecturers
Amirul Nadzeem Norhisham and Tan Jian Lee, both students who went through the Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT) pathway through the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE International), said their lecturers helped them navigate the university application process with ease. This allowed them to identify institutions that aligned perfectly with their academic aspirations.
Currently a second-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Accounting and Finance, Amirul's journey began with receiving a corporate scholarship to study AUSMAT at Taylor's College, which laid the foundation for his future in Australia.
"My experience at The University of Sydney has been a testament to the profound impact of pastoral care in shaping my academic and personal journey. I am grateful for the support I received during my pre-university years at Taylor's College.
"Transitioning to The University of Sydney was not without its challenges, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when most of my studies at Taylor's College were conducted online. However, with the support of my fellow peers and the dedicated teachers at Taylor's College, I was able to overcome these obstacles.
"I am especially indebted to Miss Lucia, my Specialist Maths lecturer, who constantly checked on my progress and provided guidance during those difficult times. Her support served as a motivating force, reminding me of my goal to excel academically and secure a place at a prestigious university," he said.
Similarly, Tan successfully transitioned to her desired institution and pursued her educational journey in accounting and finance, in large part thanks to the invaluable pastoral care support provided by her lecturers.

The guidance and support I received from the lecturers at Taylor's College were instrumental in not only helping me navigate the intricate university application process but also in shaping my academic path.
