We Tried Malaysia's First Blowdry Bar And Here's Our Honest Review
COCOdry opened end of last year in Bangsar.
Let's face it: sometimes we could all just use a lil' pick-me-up, whether it's in the form of a meal, massage, or a new hairdo
For someone who does hairstyling on the side, I admit I can be pretty lazy when it comes to doing my own hair.
Sometimes it's just nice to be pampered, ya know?
Step into COCOdry, Malaysia's first blowdry bar in Bangsar, KL
Unlike other typical hair salons, which also cut and dye hair, a blowdry bar specialises only in washes, blowouts, and styling.
But other than that, COCOdry also provides services like makeup and hair treatments – we got to try out their latest scalp treatment!
From the moment you walk in, you'll know you're in for a good experience
Their space in Bangsar is set up beautifully.
It's a good escape for some me-time, but it also makes you feel like you can head there with your girlfriends, your mother, or even on a date (they provide services for men too!).
Basically, for a good 20 to 45 minutes, you will be treated like a queen or king.
As you enter, you will be ushered to your seat and given a non-alcoholic drinks menu, where you can place an order
Tea and a hot towel come complimentary with 'The Hustler' service, which is the wash, blow, and style option!
But they also have other drinks available like coffee, juice, kombucha, and their signature Bungaraya mocktail.
Our seats were set up two-metres apart to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and each of our stylists wore face shields, masks, and gloves.
During your session, you can watch Netflix on the shared TV screen and even charge your phone with the USB ports available at each seat. Charging cables are provided, in case you don't have yours with you!
We tried out their new treatment, which highlighted the problematic areas on our scalps
After the examination, our friendly stylists began the treatment process according to what each of our scalps needed.
One thing I loved is that all of the hair products they use are eco-friendly, free of parabens, and all of the other chemicals that aren't good for our hair.
The treatment left our scalps feeling really refreshed. Two of my colleagues, who usually have issues with dandruff and itchy scalps, said that they felt a big difference even after several days had passed.
My hair was surviving on dry shampoo all week so it was satisfying to clear out all the gunk!
IMHO, it's not necessary to do the scalp treatment unless you have issues, such as dandruff or a greasy/dry scalp. They do provide other types of treatments as well so you can check those out too.
After the scalp treatment, we got our hair washed, blowdried, and styled!
Having coloured hair and being quite particular about it, I was impressed that the stylist used purple shampoo and conditioner (which is good for grey tones) while washing my hair with cold water to retain its colour.
It wasn't something I had asked her to do but was happy that she was aware of it.
They have several hairstyle options, which you can check out in their lookbook provided at each seat
For RM60, you can select 'The Hustler', which is a 45-minute wash, blowdry, and style session. Under this option, there are different styles to pick from:
- Beach Please
- Crazy Rich Asian
- Korean Waves
- Sleek & Slay
- Blowouts
For an added RM30 or RM60, you can also get other updos like a fancy pony, buns, or different types of braids.

All in all, the service is top-notch and I especially like the fact that they use good products and high-quality hair tools
GHD, Dyson, O' Right shampoo, and Davines styling products are just some of the brands they use.
If you're heading for an event or just need a little pamper session, this blowdry bar definitely has you covered.
They take walk-ins, but only if there is a slot available. So it's best to make an appointment before going. To do so, just head to their website or click 'BOOK' on their Instagram.
