Koh Lipe is a stunning island in Thailand with turquoise waters and white sandy beaches. It's a popular spot for divers and snorkellers.

But what many may not know is that you can get there from Malaysia in just 90 minutes!

Here's a glimpse of the crystal waters:

Described as 'The Maldives of Thailand', Koh Lipe is 50km, a mere 1.5-hour ferry ride, away from Langkawi

That means if you're leaving from Kuala Lumpur, you can reach the island in just a couple of hours!

Here's a quick breakdown so it's easier to understand:
KLIA/klia2/Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport > Langkawi – 1.2-hour flight
Langkawi > Koh Lipe – 1.5-hour ferry ride

The best time to go is between November and May, as this is considered the high season and ferries will go back and forth. During monsoon or low season (June to October), ferries do not usually operate and you will need to go via Hat Yai instead.

To get to Koh Lipe from Langkawi, head to Telaga Harbour or Kuah Jetty

From there, a speedboat ferry will transport you directly to Koh Lipe in 90 minutes. Ferries shuttle back and forth twice a day between 9.30am and 2.30pm. You can easily get your ferry tickets online either herehere, or here.

Take note that you will need your passport for this trip, as you are travelling to a different country. There will be an immigration point before you board the ferry and after you arrive on the island.

Digital creator and TikTok user @rebeccafoo recently shared her experience:

Once you've arrived on the island, there are plenty of things to do, including kayaking, island tours, beach hopping, snorkelling, and diving

You could even spend a couple of days in Langkawi on your way there or back. So, it's like two beach holidays in one!
