More money for senior welfare
The government is serious about improving elderly care. In the 2026 Budget, RM1.26 billion was set aside for senior citizen welfare .
Looking ahead, the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development has asked for an extra RM168 million for Budget 2027 . This extra funding is meant to help more people and improve caregiving support for seniors and heads of households .
What is the Bantuan Warga Emas (BWE)?
The Bantuan Warga Emas (BWE) is a monthly cash aid programme run by the Department of Social Welfare (JKM). To help with the rising cost of living, the monthly payment was raised to RM600 in 2025 .
This aid is specifically for senior citizens living in poverty who need extra financial support for their daily needs .
Who can apply and how?
To qualify for BWE, you must meet these requirements:
- You must be a Malaysian citizen.
- You must be 60 years old or older.
- Your household income must be below the official poverty line .
How to apply:
You can apply online through the eBantuanJKM portal or visit your local District Social Welfare Office (PKMD) .
Important note: If you apply online, you must visit your nearest PKMD office within 14 days to verify your documents. If you don't do this, your application won't be processed .
