Malaysia is on a mission to become a greener nation, and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is leading the charge. To support Malaysia's goal of reaching Net Zero emissions by 2050, TNB is changing how it produces and manages energy .
More clean energy for everyone
TNB is working hard to boost its renewable energy (RE) capacity. They have set a target to reach 7.0GW of renewable energy by 2030 . By 2025, they expect to hit a total capacity of 8.3GW, covering both local and international projects .
To move away from traditional fossil fuels, they are investing in a mix of solar, hydro, wind, and biomass energy .
Big projects for a greener Malaysia
Under the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), TNB is taking the lead on several major projects . One cool innovation is the use of hybrid hydro-floating solar systems at existing dams. This helps provide a more steady supply of renewable energy around the clock .
They are also teaming up with partners to test out green hydrogen and ammonia to make their existing power plants cleaner .
How you can join the green movement
TNB isn't just doing this at a corporate level—they're making it easy for you to get involved too .
- Solar for your home: You can install rooftop solar panels through GSPARX or use the Net Energy Metering (NEM) scheme to lower your monthly electricity bills .
- Go green without panels: If you don't want to install solar panels, you can sign up for the Green Electricity Tariff (GET) to ensure your electricity comes from renewable sources .
- For businesses: Since 2021, companies have been able to use the Malaysia Renewable Energy Certificate (mREC) to prove they are using certified renewable energy .
