Consistent failures during testing
The issue came to light after the Chinese automotive platform Dongchedi tested the vehicle. In their trials, three separate Maextro V800 units suffered from broken brake pedal brackets .
During emergency stops from 100 km/h, one pedal snapped under a force of 1,612 N. This is well below the national safety requirement of 2,000 N .
Potential design flaws identified
Experts believe the problem lies in the design of the pedal assembly. They pointed out that the pedal uses thin materials and lacks enough reinforcement. Additionally, the pivot area only has a single layer of support, and the distance from the pedal centre to the pivot is quite long. These design choices likely caused the component to fail under pressure .
Impact on vehicle control
If the brake pedal bracket breaks, the driver loses the ability to use the foot brake. To stop the car, the driver would have to rely on the "P" (Park) gear for emergency deceleration.
This is extremely dangerous, as it increases the stopping distance from about 38 metres to roughly 140 metres . The owner's manual even warns that this emergency method is not a substitute for the regular braking system .
Brand response and next steps
Maextro has promised to fix the design and offer a free upgrade to all current owners . While the company claims the V800 passed all required industry standards during its initial testing, they have committed to reviewing their production and quality control processes moving forward .
