Why Hannah Yeoh Is the First KL MP to Lead Federal Territories in 20 Years

Hannah Yeoh Tseow Suan is currently the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of the Federal Territories, a role she stepped into in December 2025 .

From sports to city planning

Before her current role, Yeoh was the Minister of Youth and Sports from 2022 to 2025 . When she moved to the Federal Territories portfolio in December 2025, it was a big deal—she became the first Member of Parliament from Kuala Lumpur to hold this position in 20 years .

What is she working on now?

As the Minister for Federal Territories, Yeoh is focused on how our cities are run and how we can protect our environment. She has been working on projects to secure retention ponds to help prevent floods and is pushing for changes in how Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) handles urban development .

She is also involved in important conversations about keeping our city green, including efforts to protect areas like Bukit Kiara from over-development .

Still serving Segambut

On top of her cabinet duties, Yeoh remains the Member of Parliament for Segambut. She is currently serving her second term there, having first won the seat in 2018 .

She is also a key figure in the Democratic Action Party (DAP). Following a leadership reshuffle in March 2025, she currently serves as one of the party's deputy secretaries-general .
