Launched in 2024, Program Anak Kita is a strategic initiative designed to address learning gaps and student dropouts across Malaysia . By fostering collaboration between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education, the programme aims to ensure no student is left behind in their educational journey.
Addressing core learning challenges
The programme focuses on three primary areas: mastering basic literacy and numeracy (3M), preventing students from dropping out due to poverty, and improving SPM pass rates for Bahasa Melayu and Sejarah . These interventions are supported by a RM100 million allocation, as announced during the 2024 Budget .
A collaborative approach
Program Anak Kita employs a "whole-nation approach," involving three public universities and seven civil society organisations . Managed by Yayasan Hasanah, the initiative integrates digital tools for virtual tutoring and data analytics to identify at-risk students early . International bodies like UNICEF and UNESCO, alongside tech giants like Google and Microsoft, also provide support .
Reaching students nationwide
The initiative targets over 83,000 students across more than 3,000 schools nationwide . By 2026, the programme continues to evolve, with recent reports noting that 4,375 students across 141 schools in Selangor are actively involved in its ongoing efforts . Through teacher training and leadership development, the programme seeks to create a sustainable impact on the national education landscape .
