7 Ramen Recipes To Try When You Lapar Tengah Malam

1. Kewpie Mayo Ramen

Originating from Japan and quickly going viral on social media, this super simple recipe results in a creamier ramen broth. Some have likened it to a tonkotsu broth, while others say it tastes like carbonara. The original recipe suggests using Sapporo Ichiban ramen (original flavour), but you can use any instant ramen you like.

- 1 pack of instant ramen
- 1 tablespoon of Kewpie mayo
- 500 ml hot water
- 1 raw egg
- 1 teaspoon garlic, minced or grated
- 1 tablespoon scallions, finely sliced (optional)


1. In a bowl, mix the garlic, Kewpie mayo, raw egg, and the instant ramen seasoning.

2. Bring the water to a boil in a pot and cook the noodles.

3. Mix half of the hot water you cooked the noodles in with the mixture you made earlier.

4. Then, pour in the rest of the ramen water and the cooked noodles. Mix the noodles with the broth and enjoy! Garnish with scallions if you want.

2. KFC Fried Chicken Instant Noodles

Waahhh, KFC fried chicken in instant noodles? What a combination! This recipe comes all the way from Trinidad and Tobago. Give it a try the next time you have some leftover KFC ayam goreng. Or, if you wanna order some just to try this recipe, we totally sapot, hehe. :P

- 1 packet of any spicy instant noodles
- KFC fried chicken (quantity and flavour is up to you)
- Bok choy, with the leaves and stem cut separately (quantity is up to you)
- Water
- Sriracha / hot sauce (optional)


1. Remove the skin from the KFC fried chicken. Toast the chicken at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or in an air fryer. Once done, peel the meat off the bones.

2. Put the chicken meat in a pot with the instant noodle seasoning and some water. Mix together and let it boil.

3. Add the bok choy stems and let them cook for a bit before adding the leafy parts and letting those cook too.

4. Add the noodles. Once everything is cooked, pour it all out into a bowl.

5. Chop up the crispy chicken skin and sprinkle it over the noodles. Yum!

6. You can add some sriracha or hot sauce if you're a kaki pedas who wants that extra kick.

3. Fire Noodles with Steamed Egg & Cheese

If you love Samyang instant noodles, you've gotta give this version a try. Imagine that soft, fluffy steamed egg dish you get at Korean restaurants, but with Samyang noodles in them, wahhhh! And then got cheese summore, yummms. It sounds so good, y'all.

- 1 packet of Samyang instant noodles
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup water
- Any cheese of your choice (the original recipe used string cheese and cheddar cheese, just FYI)
- Chopped green onions
- Salt


1. Cook the noodles in boiling water for four minutes.

2. Crack two eggs in a serving bowl. Add a pinch of salt, 1/2 cup water, and chopped green onions. Mix well.

3. Cover the bowl with microwave-safe plastic wrap and microwave for one minute and 30 seconds.

4. In the meantime, take the noodles out and drain the water. Mix well with the seasoning sauce.

5. Place the noodles into the middle of the steamed egg. Top with cheese.

6. Cover the bowl with microwave-safe plastic wrap again and microwave for two minutes. Check to make sure the egg and cheese are completely cooked. Microwave for longer if necessary.

7. Sprinkle the flakes on top and dig in!

4. TikTok Ramen

Miss having MAGGI or Indomie goreng at the mamak? Try making this recipe at home to fulfill those cravings! It's not the traditional mamak recipe, but many swear that it's super yummy and incredibly addictive. A good balance of sweet and savoury, with added richness and a hint of spice. Sounds good to us!

- 1 packet of instant noodles (any brand is fine, as you won't be using the seasoning)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon chilli flakes
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon everything bagel seasoning*


1. Cook the instant noodles according to the package directions. Drain well.

2. In a pan, heat up the butter over medium heat, then add the garlic and chilli flakes. When the garlic is soft, stir in the brown sugar and soy sauce.

3. Add the drained noodles to the pan, and toss until well coated in the sauce.

4. Pushing the noodles to one side of the pan, add the egg in the free space. Scramble the egg until fully cooked, then mix with the noodles.

5. Serve up on a plate, and top with everything bagel seasoning.

*If you can't find everything bagel seasoning, you can make your own by combining 1.5 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds, 1 tablespoon poppy seeds, 1 tablespoon minced garlic, 1 tablespoon minced onion, and 1 teaspoon coarse or flaky salt. Alternatively, you can also top the noodles with furikake seasoning instead.

5. Cold Ramyun

On a really panas day, this cold ramyun recipe makes for a great alternative to the normal kind. Cool and refreshing, it won't leave you sweating even more in the heat. Unless you cannot tahan pedas lah, then you might still sweat a bit haha.

- 1 packet of Korean instant ramyun
- 200 ml cold water
- 1.5 tablespoons of sugar
- 1.5 tablespoons of white wine vinegar
- 1.5 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 1 hard-boiled egg
- Sliced cucumber, cabbage, green onion, and chilli pepper (quantity is up to you)
- Ice cubes
- Sesame seeds


1. Boil some water in a pot and add the noodles in with the dry flakes it comes with. Do not put the seasoning powder in!

2. Once the noodles are cooked, take them out and rinse with cold water. Drain and set aside.

3. In a mixing bowl, combine the ramyun seasoning powder with the sugar, vinegar, and soy sauce. Add the cold water and some ice cubes. Mix until well combined. If you find it too salty or too spicy, add more ice cubes to make it milder.

4. Put the noodles in a serving bowl. Garnish with the sliced vegetables and hard-boiled egg.

5. Pour the broth over and sprinkle some sesame seeds. Enjoy!

6. Laksa Instant Ramen

Love laksa but malas to spend so much time cooking it? Whip up this instant version instead. It only takes 10 minutes to make, making it perfect to prepare and slurp up for lunch, dinner, or even supper. Confirm puas! This recipe makes two servings, so you can share with someone. Or you wanna eat all also can, we won't judge, teehee! ;)

- 3 tablespoons laksa paste
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar
- 3 and 1/2 cups water
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1 packet Maruchan chicken-flavored instant noodles
- 1 packet Maruchan shrimp-flavored instant noodles
- 1/4 cup cilantro leaves
- 1 scallion, chopped
- 1 Thai bird chilli, finely chopped (optional)
- 2 lime wedges


1. Cook the laksa paste and brown sugar over medium heat for one minute, stirring frequently.

2. Add the water, coconut milk, and the seasoning packets from the instant noodles. Bring to a simmer. Then, add the instant noodles and cook until softened but still al dente.

3. Divide between two bowls. Top with cilantro, scallions, chilli, and a lime wedge before serving.

7. Ram-don / Jjapaguri

If you've watched the Academy Award-winning movie Parasite, you'll definitely recognise this dish. Made from a mix of two different Korean instant noodles, it's leveled up by the addition of some premium steak, transforming it into an atas meal worthy of the Park family.

- 1 packet of Chapagetti instant noodles
- 1 packet of Neoguri instant noodles
- 12 oz sirloin or ribeye steak
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon salted butter


1. Tenderise the steak, then cut into 3/4 inch cubes. Season with kosher salt and ground black pepper.

2. Put the vegetable oil into a cast iron pan or heavy frying pan, and turn the heat on high. When it's smoking hot, add the steak cubes and sear for one minute.

3. Add the salted butter and continue to brown all sides of the steak until it's cooked to your preferred doneness. Once cooked, remove the steak cubes from the pan and set aside.

4. While the steak is cooking, boil some water. Add the two packets of vegetable mix and noodles from both packs of instant noodles. When the noodles are cooked, drain and set aside.

5. Pour 3/4 cup of the water you cooked the noodles in back into the frying pan. Turn the heat to medium, then add the instant noodles' oil packet and soup base packets. Stir well.

6. Once it comes to a boil, add the noodles and stir for a minute until the sauce starts to thicken.

7. Turn off the heat, add the steak, and toss to combine, then makan!
