14-Year-Old Girl & Boyfriend Arrested For Attempting To Kidnap A Baby In Penang
"The suspect told us that she took the baby girl because she liked her very much," said Seberang Perai Tengah police chief Tan Cheng San.
Five people, including a 14-year-old and her boyfriend, have been arrested for investigation into an attempted kidnapping of a nine-month-old baby in Penang on Tuesday, 23 August
Seberang Perai Tengah police chief Tan Cheng San said the five suspects were picked up in separate raids, one in Bukit Tengah, Penang and the other in Kulim, Kedah, a few hours after the baby's parents lodged a police report on their missing child.
According to New Straits Times, the police chief said the baby's mother had gone to pick her daughter up at her 65-year-old's babysitter's apartment when she was told the babysitter's 14-year-old granddaughter might have abducted the baby while she was busy praying.
During investigations, police found closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showing the girl leaving the apartment compound around 5pm on Tuesday
She was riding a motorcycle while holding the baby in one hand, Tan said.
Police managed to track down and detain the teenager, her boyfriend, and another 18-year-old friend at a home in Machang Bubok at 11.50pm that night.
The police only found the baby later at the boyfriend's parents' house in Kulim past midnight. They arrested the parents and also confiscated some belongings to aid in the investigation.
Tan said the motive for the attempted kidnapping is still being investigated
"The suspect told us that she took the baby girl because she liked her very much," he told reporters on Thursday, 25 August.
"Investigations on the main suspect revealed that she ran away with the baby because the baby is too cute," he also told Harian Metro.
"She, however, told her boyfriend's mother that the child was hers, from her previous relationship."
Tan said all five suspects are under remand for four days to assist in investigations under Section 363 of the Penal Code for kidnapping.
