14-Year-Old Student Dies After Being Punished For Coming To School 25 Minutes Late

He was made to run laps around the school field as a punishment.

In an incident that happened on Tuesday, 1 October, a 14-year-old student in Indonesia died after his teacher made him run laps around the school field as a punishment for coming late to school

According to a report in AsiaOne, student Fanly Lahingide was given the punishment along with five of his friends, who were late to school together.

The 14-year-old collapsed while he was in the middle of his second lap.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8.40am after doctors at the hospital failed to resuscitate him.

He died while being disciplined for coming late by 25 minutes

Fanly's mother was in tears when she learned about the incident involving her son, less than two hours after he had left for school

According to the 46-year-old mother, her son was still having breakfast at home before he left for school at 6.30am on Tuesday.

"I hope no other child has to experience this. The police must investigate this incident and punish the teacher accordingly," she was quoted as saying.

The exact cause of Fanly's death has not yet been confirmed

While an autopsy will be carried out at Bhayangkara Hospital, the victim's family plans to raise a case against the teacher for his actions.
