2 Former Ministers Being Tested After Exposure To COVID-19
The COVID-19 patient is a staff member of Khazanah Nasional.
This morning, 2 March, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) member Wong Chen called for health precautions after an ex-minister and ex-deputy minister were found to have come into contact with a COVID-19 patient
Wong Chen revealed in a tweet that both former ministers are being tested after having attended several long political meetings together last week.
Wong Chen added that the responsible thing to do is to quarantine himself today and tomorrow until they receive the test results of the former ministers
"Please note that both have not been found to be infected and that tests are ongoing... I am perfectly fine, healthwise this morning. I will be working from home and will engage my officers via conference call at 10am," he added in a Facebook post.
Wong Chen also called for the public to not panic but to take extra precautions.
"Please do not panic, the main aim is to be knowledgeable and help contain the spread. Those who have come in contact with a COVID-19 victim should practice a bit of self-quarantine discipline, and if sickly, to contact the hospital for tests."
Meanwhile, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham said that none of those who came into contact with the patient have tested positive so far
According to The Edge, the patient is Hisham Hamdan, the executive director and head of Khazanah Research and Investment Strategy at Khazanah Nasional Berhad, who is among the four new COVID-19 patients recently confirmed by the Ministry of Health.
Hisham had travelled to Shanghai in the middle of January and had come into contact with several ministers after attending a hotel event on 27 February.
He is currently admitted to the Sungai Buloh Hospital isolation ward after testing positive for COVID-19 on 29 February.
"Khazanah is working closely with the health authorities and the management of our office premises in undertaking the necessary measures and precautions to ensure the health and safety of all our employees and those around them," a press statement by Khazanah Nasional read, as quoted by Free Malaysia Today.
