NST reported that the victim, Aw Kok Cheng, was hiking up Gunung Nuang in Hulu Langat with a group of friends at around 6.30am.

He suddenly collapsed and fell unconscious near a checkpoint at 12.15pm.

His friends immediately alerted the Fire and Rescue Department. However, poor weather conditions and the rough terrain prevented rescuers from reaching the scene sooner.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations officer Muhamad Hissam Sidik said a team from the Kajang fire station was swiftly deployed to the scene after receiving the distress call.

The rescuers began their operation at 3.15pm and it took them 24 hours to bring down the body to the foothill.

"The operation was dampened by bad weather and difficult terrain. The team only managed to meet with the climbers, all men, around 7.00am today (20 August)," he said as quoted by NST.
