50% Discount On Tolls During All Festive Seasons This Year
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the decision was made in consideration of the fact that people still need it.
The government has announced that all tolls will be discounted by 50% during festive seasons this year
This move replaces the previous toll-free initiative while still offering savings for road users.
According to Bernama, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi explained that the shift from toll-free days to a 50% discount helps manage costs.
Previously, toll-free travel for eight days a year cost the government RM160 million in compensation to highway concessionaires.
With the new 50% discount system, the government will now spend RM80 million instead.
The discount applies to major festive seasons, starting with Chinese New Year 2025
The government has decided to continue this initiative for other celebrations, including Hari Raya Aidilfitri and more, ensuring that road users still benefit from reduced toll costs.
The discount is fully funded by the government using public funds. Highway concession companies will still receive payments to cover the difference, ensuring smooth operations on highways.
