An eight-year-old girl was killed in a freak accident on Wednesday, 13 December, after being shot in the face with a shotgun handled by her cousin in her house in Pokok Sena, Kedah

The Star Online reported that the cousin, aged 15, was preparing to go hunting with the firearm when it was said to have gone off.

Puteri Intan Sharini Mohd Hishamuddin sustained serious injuries to her left cheek and died at the scene.

"Investigations showed she was lying down watching television at the living room when it happened," Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Rozi Jidin was quoted as saying.

It was reported that Puteri's uncle was at home with the cousin during the time of the incident, and they were getting ready to shoot squirrels.

Wan Nor Suriati Wan Masri, the girl's mother, immediately rushed home when she was informed of the tragic incident.

"She was already dead when I arrived. I just cried helplessly next to her body,"
she told reporters from New Straits Times (NST)

The case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code

ACP Mohd Rozi said the weapon and its licence were seized to help facilitate the investigation.

The girl’s body was sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for a post-mortem.
