9-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being Hit By SUV Driven By A Teacher

Both the teacher and the pupil were reportedly from the same school.

A 9-year-old boy died after being hit by a Perodua Aruz driven by a 42-year-old female teacher in Negeri Sembilan yesterday, 10 June

According to the New Straits Times, Rembau deputy district police chief DSP Azmi Ali said the incident occurred at about 5.30pm on Jalan PPRT Legong Ulu in Kota.

Preliminary investigations found that the teacher was driving from a nearby school towards the PPRT housing area when the SUV she was driving allegedly struck the victim.

Sinar Harian reported that the boy was believed to have been playing on the road at the time of the incident.

The victim suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Azmi said the boy's body was sent to the forensic medicine unit at Rembau Hospital for an autopsy, while the driver was unharmed.

Police have yet to obtain CCTV or dashboard camera footage but have identified a witness to assist with the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.

If convicted, the suspect faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to RM20,000.
