On 3 November, a 45-year-old man molested a child who has been under the care of his childminder wife. However, the incident only came to light after the victim confided about it to her aunt recently.

The incident took place in Desa Mentari, Petaling Jaya.

During which, the victim, who is nine, was at home alone when the childminder's husband whom the victim knew appeared on the pretext of wanting to return her face mask, reported Bernama.

"While in the house, the suspect insisted on the victim sitting beside him before he began to molest her," Petaling Jaya district deputy police chief Supt Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said.

The victim started screaming repeatedly, which prompted the 45-year-old suspect to run away.

The nine-year-old then contacted her aunt.

Ku Mashiraman said the suspect tried to escape when approached by the victim's aunt and her husband on Friday night, 20 November

"The complainant's husband called out to the suspect but he tried to escape and a fight ensued between them, but the suspect was subsequently arrested and taken to the Petaling Jaya Police Station," he added.

He has since been remanded for seven days

According to Ku Mashiraman, the suspect worked as a forklift driver.

The case is being investigated under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which provides for a maximum of 20 years imprisonment and whipping if convicted.
