A 24-year-old Malaysian was found dead in the Serpentine, a recreational park at Hyde Park yesterday, 25 March
Officers from the local police station were called to the lake at 5.51am after receiving reports of a body in the lake.
They were able to retrieve it within minutes with help from the London Ambulance Service, Malay Mail reported.
The man was identified as Muhammad Hafiz, based on his Imperial College London student card
The death is being treated as unexplained and an investigation is ongoing.
Hafiz's father, Malay Mail Associate Editor Zainal Epi, received a call from the Malaysian Embassy in London at 2.30am today
"I will be heading there tomorrow with my family. I'm not sure what really happened. I was just informed that they identified him based on the student identification card," he said, according to Malay Mail.
Zainal last saw his son in September when he visited London, where Hafiz has been studying Chemistry since 2015.
