A woman from Selangor who was holidaying in Langkawi was the victim of an attempted rape at the Langkawi Lagoon Sea Village resort early on Wednesday, according to her post on Facebook

The woman's Facebook post, which had been shared over 4k times at the time of writing this story, narrates how the nightmarish ordeal took place.

The incident took place within the space of a few minutes around 7.20 in the morning, when the woman, who was getting ready for a jog, lay on the bed and was checking messages on her phone

"I was lying on the bed, checking messages on my phone, when I noticed the shadow of a man behind the glass panel. It turned out to be a man of about 165cm height with a very tanned skin who was half naked, wearing only a black trouser," the woman wrote.

She claims that when she asked him "who are you" the man pounced on her.

The woman claimed that the man pushed her against the bed, covered her mouth and told her to stop screaming. When she asked him did he want money, she claims he told her, "I want you".

At which point, she started to defend herself and put up a fight.

"I struggled, pushed and punched him while yelling for help," the woman wrote on her Facebook post, adding that after a few minutes of struggle, the man grabbed her and pushed her inside the bathroom and fled the room.

When she phoned the reception to report abut the incident, they sent her a man who she claimed looked similar to her assailant

According to her, he was the buggy driver on duty and looked very similar to the man who was in her room and tried to rape her.

However, the woman added that she wasn't 100% sure if the buggy driver, who seemed quite helpful, was the same man, and she didn't want to blame an innocent man.

She wrote that the hotel management wasn't very helpful about the incident.

The woman decided to check out of the resort and took the blood-stained bedsheet with her as evidence to the Kuala Teriang police station where she lodged a report at about 10am the same day

She was sent for a medical check-up. The police later arrested a 17-year-old suspect from the resort for investigation.

According to a report in The Star Online, Langkawi district police chief Asst Comm Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang said the case is being investigated under Section 354 and Section 448 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force with the intention to outrage modesty, and for trespassing, respectively.

"We are in the midst of investigating the matter and are currently in the process of obtaining a remand order," The Star Online quoted him as saying.

However, the woman has questioned why the police didn't register a case about an attempt to rape, asking is it because there was no evidence to prove and charge the suspect with sexual assault

In her Facebook post, the woman quoted an inspector named Alex telling her that the suspect was "trying to rob but realised she was actually awake.

"The 17-year-old must have taken the key from housekeeping and took off his shirt as he didn't want to be recognised as the hotel staff."

She has also questioned the lack of safety lock on the room's door, saying it has a single lock which can be unlocked by a master key

She posted a couple of photos, showing how the card access is not functional.
