An online ordering glitch led to an unexpected feast in Ohio, US, after a customer accidentally purchased 6,000 chocolate-frosted doughnuts instead of 60
The customer in Riverside had intended to place a routine online order for 60 chocolate-frosted doughnuts topped with sprinkles through Dunkin' Donuts' digital platform.
However, an extra pair of zeros accidentally entered the quantity box, turning a modest request into a massive order of 6,000 pastries.
Upon receiving the massive order, the store manager decided not to reject or cancel it
Instead, the manager called in extra staff to complete the unexpected order, keeping the kitchen running throughout the day.
The story quickly went viral on Facebook, sparking widespread interest across the local community. Rather than letting the surplus go to waste, the store began offering free trays of freshly baked doughnuts to incoming patrons.
As news spread across social media, community members and delivery drivers stepped in to distribute the doughnuts around the neighbourhood
Crystal Fannon, a DoorDash driver, collected as many boxes as her vehicle could hold and distributed them to nearby residents.
Dunkin' employee Amber Cantor recalled her shock when she arrived for her shift to find racks overflowing with doughnuts. She admitted that she had never seen so many doughnuts in a single location, noting that the kitchen remained continuously busy handling the surge.
