Thousands of eligible Selangor youths have yet to claim the RM1,500 benefit they are entitled to under the state's Tabung Warisan Anak Selangor (TAWAS) savings scheme
According to The Star, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that out of the 21,268 eligible TAWAS members this year, only 8,642 or 40.6% have submitted their claims.
This year marks the first time TAWAS members are able to receive the benefit, as the scheme's earliest recipients, children born in 2008, have now turned 18.
Amirudin said the state government has faced challenges in reaching eligible recipients, as many have relocated to other states or overseas and changed their contact details
"We have contact numbers, but the information is no longer up to date," he said when replying to a question from Sijangkang assemblyman Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting at Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor in Shah Alam yesterday, 4 August.
To help locate eligible recipients, Amirudin said the state government will step up its outreach efforts by working with local councillors and village heads.

Under the scheme, each eligible child receives RM1,500 upon turning 18.
New registrations for TAWAS have since been closed and replaced by the Iltizam Anak Selangor (ANAS) programme, which was introduced in 2022.
Eligible TAWAS members have been encouraged to submit their claims since 22 January, with applications available through YAWAS' official online portal.
