Anwar Ibrahim Has Been Freed
He will be giving a brief talk tonight to supporters at Padang Timur Amcorp Mall Petaling Jaya.
Datuk Anwar Ibrahim has been released today and is expected to meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Istana Negara at 12:30pm today, May 16
He was granted a full pardon by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V.
Dressed in a dark suit, Anwar walked out a free man from the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital where he was recovering for the past few months from a shoulder surgery, according to The Star.
Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad said yesterday that Anwar would have to contest for a parliamentary seat and could then possibly join the Cabinet.
Dr Mahathir had previously said that he would continue to serve as Prime Minister for "maybe one or two years" before stepping aside to make way for Anwar
Although, he will still continue to play a role "in the background" after stepping down, he told a Wall Street Journal conference in Tokyo via video link.
As a welcome for Anwar's release, there will be an event held tonight where he will give a brief talk to supporters at Padang Timur Amcorp Mall Petaling Jaya.
