Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has shared the sad news of the death of his elder brother, Idrus Ibrahim
In a Facebook post, Anwar said he received the heartbreaking news while returning to Malaysia from a three-day working visit to China.
Idrus, 83, reportedly died in his sleep at his home in Jalan Kilang Ubi, Cherok Tokun, Bukit Mertajam, Penang, on Thursday afternoon, 24 September.
Anwar expressed regret that he was unable to be by his brother's side during his final moments, but said he has accepted the loss.
"It is difficult for me to put into words the sense of loss I feel now that someone who shared so many memories throughout my life is no longer here. Only Allah SWT knows how heavy my heart feels as I come to terms with this reality," he said.
Anwar also asked friends and members of the public to pray for the deceased
He thanked his late brother for the memories and kindness he had left behind, saying they would remain etched in their family's memories and hearts.
"May Allah SWT forgive his shortcomings, shower his soul with mercy, and place him among His faithful servants who did good deeds," he wrote.
Idrus, affectionately known as Cikgu Idrus, was a teacher and former headmaster of Sekolah Kebangsaan Stowell in Bukit Mertajam
Anwar's eldest daughter, Nurul Izzah, also paid tribute to her late uncle in a Facebook post, describing him as a big-hearted man who welcomed everyone with warmth and affection.
"Our teacher, our uncle, a man with a big heart and boundless love, who always welcomed everyone with warmth and a sense of family.
"Uncle Ros has now returned to the mercy of Allah," she wrote.
Idrus was the second of eight siblings and leaves behind a wife, four children, and 10 grandchildren.
His remains are scheduled to be buried at the Cherok Tokun Bawah Muslim Cemetery in Bukit Mertajam today, 25 September, after Friday prayers.
