Batu Pahat Schools Close Due To Haze

All schools in Batu Pahat, Johor have been ordered to close today, 7 October, due to worsening haze conditions

In a statement last night, 6 October, the Batu Pahat District Office said the closure applies to all schools, kindergartens, and nurseries throughout the district.

Batu Pahat recorded an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 203, classified as "Very Unhealthy", at 8pm on Tuesday.

"In line with the National Haze Action Plan and Ministry of Education guidelines, actions regarding haze management in schools must be implemented based on API readings and instructions from education authorities," it said.

Schools have been advised to conduct Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) for the time being

Schools have been advised to inform parents and guardians about the PdPR arrangements, student assignments, and communication channels through their official platforms.

The Batu Pahat District Office will continue to monitor air quality before deciding when schools can reopen

"Any decision regarding the reopening of schools must be based on air quality developments and official instructions from the authorities," it said.

As of 8am today, the latest data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed that Batu Pahat's API reading had improved slightly to 190, which remains in the "Unhealthy" category.

Meanwhile, 34 other areas across Malaysia were also recording "Unhealthy" API levels.
