Free Petrol For All Motorcyclists In Federal Territories From April
More details on the free programme would be announced soon.
Starting from April, motorcyclists in the Federal Territories (Wilayah Persekutuan) will be able to get free fuel every month
The Federal Territories (FT) Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth wing chief Mohd Razlan Mohammad Rafi made the announcement yesterday, 22 February.
Speaking to reporters at the 'Free Petrol Top Up for Motorcycle' programme organised by FT MyPPP (Malaysia's People's Progressive Party) Youth Movement, Razlan said that the assistance is intended to ease the burden of the people, especially the motorcyclists.
About 117,000 motorcyclists in 13 constituencies are expected to get the free fuel from this programme
"We will give to all regardless of their background and political standing."
"We understand that quite a number of motorcyclists are underprivileged and the government is concerned over its people," Razlan was quoted as saying by Bernama.
He added that further details about the programme would be announced soon.
Just a few weeks ago, the Bandar Tun Razak and Putrajaya UMNO division announced that they will provide free petrol to motorcyclists every month
Bandar Tun Razak division head Rizalman Mokhtar said that efforts to give away free fuel to motorcycle riders will take place on the first day of every month.
"We have decided to run this programme once a month no matter if the prices of fuel go up or down," he told reporters earlier this month.
Meanwhile, it was also reported that chief of Putrajaya UMNO Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said that his division will also be organising free fuel programmes for motorcyclists twice every month.
The last few months saw politicians on both divides giving out free fuel to motorcyclists as the prices of petrol have increased significantly since December 2016
Politicians from both the ruling government and opposition parties have been giving out RM5 worth of petrol for each motorcycle as a way to help the public who are facing financial strain.
The UMNO divisions all over the country including the likes of Parit Buntar, Alor Setar and Labuan all have given out free fuel to motorcyclists in the recent months.
On the other hand, DAP's Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng also organised a free fuel drive during the Chinese New Year season a few weeks ago.
However, the initiatives are not without controversy, as some have raised questions and criticised the organisers for "bribing the people" with the free giveaway.
