An ordinary afternoon spent doing what a 14-year-old loves most — fishing with friends — ended in heartbreak for a family in Pasir Mas, Kelantan
Muhammad Ziad Zikri Abdul Hadi died at the scene after being struck by lightning near a canal in Kampung Tasek Berangan, Repek.
According to Berita Harian, the Form Two student from SMK Sri Kiambang was out with his cousin and friends when a sudden downpour altered their plans.

"When the lightning struck, the four of us fell flat on the ground, and that was when I saw smoke coming from Ziad's body," said 12-year-old Haziq Qayyum Rosli
Haziq Qayyum, who sustained minor injuries to his right shoulder in the strike, recounted the harrowing moments leading up to the 4.30pm tragedy.
"We arrived at the paddy field at 4pm. However, it suddenly started raining, and I asked Ziad and the others to go home because I was worried the rain was getting heavier. There was no lightning yet at that time," he recalled.
He explained that Muhammad Ziad Zikri initially asked to stay a little longer, hoping to catch more than the two fish he had already caught.
"But after the rain grew heavier, Ziad agreed to go home. While walking towards the motorcycle, there was a sudden, very strong lightning strike, and we all fell to the ground," he added.
Upon witnessing the horrific scene, the panicked friends sprinted back to alert the victim's 60-year-old father, Abdul Hadi Abdul Ghani
"I was shocked when my nephew, who was also fishing with Ziad, ran home and told me my son had been struck by lightning," Abdul Hadi shared.
He immediately rushed to the site, located about 2km away, where his other children were already frantically trying to revive the teenager.
"I immediately cradled Ziad, but he was gone. We took him to Pasir Mas Hospital for confirmation of death," he said.
Remembering his youngest son as a cheerful and obedient boy, Abdul Hadi said the teenager spent every afternoon indulging in his passion for fishing and catching birds.
Pasir Mas district police chief ACP Mazlan Hassan said his department had yet to receive an official report on the incident.
